Americans love their coffee. Whether they drink it black, with cream and/or sugar, or treat themselves to espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, of iced coffee, people in the United States tend to drink an average of 1.64 cups every day.

In 2014 alone, the United States imported 27.5 million bags of coffee. This made American the world’s largest buyer of coffee beans at that time. Given that 30% of the population just consumes this delectable brew on occasion, that means more access to coffee for those that drink it all day.

A recent coffee-consumption survey showed the following results as to when people prefer to drink their coffee:

  • During breakfast hours: 65%
  • Between meals: 30%
  • With other meals: 5%

As you are probably aware, there are 2 main types of coffee: Arabica and Robusta. Most of the coffee used within the specialty industry is Arabica.

Specialty beans are quite popular with the coffee-drinking crowd. These coffees are considered to be of the highest quality, and account for 37% of the coffee consumers enjoy drinking.

The study showed that there was a 65% decrease in the development of these conditions.

Whether your customers prefer their coffee black, with cream and/or sugar, or enjoy elaborate specialty drinks, wooden coffee stirrers are preferred over their plastic counterparts. A major part of the coffee-drinking ritual for many connoisseurs is to slip wooden coffee stirrers into their drink and circle them around and around.

Espresso-based drinks are popular at independent coffee shops, which tend to sell 31% of these types of beverages. Whether it’s a double shot with a traditional twist of lemon, or a mocha with several shots and topped off with whipped cream and a drizzle, these specialty drinks continue to be the first choice with many consumers. The rest? They stand by their cup of brewed coffee.

Since many cafes sell high-quality coffee beans, more coffee drinkers may be making their first cup of morning coffee at home. Throughout the day, however, and into the evening, they continue to stop by their favorite cafes to purchase another cup or 2.
