Frozen yogurt, gelato, ice cream, and other frozen desserts are consumed regularly in the United States. Americans love to enjoy these types of desserts after lunch and dinner as well as for between-meal snacks. While they may top off their cake or pie with a scoop or 2 of ice cream, many people enjoy it by itself or with toppings such as chocolate sauce, nuts, and candy sprinkles. Others may like their ice cream in waffle cones, ice cream sandwiches, or other decadent desserts.

The NPD Group conducted research that found 40% of Americans will enjoy at least a single dish of ice cream within any 2-week time period. Over the course of this year, this means that the average person in the United States will enjoy ice cream about 28.5 times. Chances are, however, that many Americans will enjoy a dish of ice cream every day.

Whether they purchase sweet, frozen treats at the grocery store or at the local ice cream or yogurt shop, 90% of households in the United States indulge themselves in this way. No matter what time of year it is, going out for ice cream is a popular activity for all generations. Given all of the available flavors at these establishments, patrons often enjoy experiencing something new.

Since it can be a bit difficult to make a decision with all those choices, tasting spoons, such as gelato spoons, are a welcome item. While Americans may still decide to order a cup of their current favorite flavor, being able to sample new flavors on gelato spoons may inspire them to get a second scoop.

While the most ice cream is produced during June, around 1.5 billion gallons, along with similar types of desserts, are produced on an annual basis. It’s interesting to note that vanilla continues to be the most popular flavor for many Americans. A recent International Ice Cream Association member companies survey found that this was the favorite flavor for 28% of their consumers.

Americans do enjoy their ice cream and gelato. Whether their favorite flavors run more along the traditional side, or they prefer a modern twist, they will definitely continue to indulge themselves on a regular basis with this popular dessert.
